Date: 14th – 17th April 2026
Location: European Joint Research Centre (JRC), Ispra, Italy
The 4th HISTRATE Training School on Advanced Testing and Instrumentation for Composites Under High Strain Rates will provide an overview of the state of the art in dynamic testing of composite materials, experimental methods and instrumentation. The training school is designed for PhD students, postdocs and young professionals who deal with composite materials, high strain rate testing, and impact or crash applications in aerospace, automotive, energy and other sectors.
The training school will introduce the basics of high strain rate testing and advanced measurement techniques through theory sessions, and will support learning through hands-on practical training sessions with split Hopkinson pressure bars, full-field digital image correlation and data processing exercises.
For the training practical sessions, the unique facilities of the EC Joint Research Centre, the European Laboratory for Structural Assessment: Medium-size Hopkinson Bar for brittle materials (https://joint-research-centre.ec.europa.eu/laboratories-z/european-laboratory-structural-assessment-large-hopkinson-bar-facility_en) will be available for testing.
You will also develop your network through lab tours, cultural and social events. The school is an efficient platform for one-to-one talks with leading experts in high strain rate testing and instrumentation.
For the hands-on practical sessions, participants may provide their own materials and specimens to be tested. For specific requirements, please contact Andrei Anisimov and Marco Peroni (a.g.anisimov@tudelft.nl, marco.peroni@ec.europa.eu) before 13 February 2026.
