The first Training School of our COST Action CA21155 – Advanced Composites under HIgh STRAin raTEs loading: a route to certification-by-analysis (HISTRATE) took place at the Inter-University Centre (IUC) in Dubrovnik from 1st to 2nd June 2023.
We welcomed 30 trainees, among them 12 on site and 18 online, from all over Europe. In 12 lectures (see full Training School programme) “Novel composite materials for impact and crash safety applications” were explored covering the understanding of different fibre reinforcements, composite configurations, and various architectures and exploring the advanced area of nanotechnology whose research effort and interest is driving the attention of many researchers in many industrial applications. Hosted by Ivica Smojver from the University of Zagreb (Local Organiser), lectures were given by Michele Meo (Univ. of Southampton), Monica Buzdugan (VITESCO Technologies), Radek Doubrava (Czech Aerospace Research Centre), Kaleeswaran Balasubramaniam (IMP PAN Gdansk), Patricia Verleysen (Ghent Univ.), Mauro Zarrelli (CNR Italy), Athanasios Kotzakolios (Univ. of Patras), Zoran Ren (Univ. of Maribor), Radmilla Tomovska (Univ. of Basque Country), Hatice Simen Sas, (Sabanci Univ.), Volkan Eskizeybek (Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart Univ.), Vassilis Kostopoulos (Univ. of Patras), Calvin Rans (TU Delft) and Benoit Devaux (Solvay).
After the thematic sessions, trainees and trainers had the chance to continue the discussions and the pleasure to explore and enjoy the beautiful city of Dubrovnik jointly. The event was a great success and received positive feedback from the attendees.
